Posted by LiberArs FGD On October - 14 - 2009

In this tutorial we will create a photographic composition with lighting in HD style. This tutorial is especially recommended for beginners because it explains how to use some of  the most importants tools for the manipulation of photographs as the magic wand selection, Stamp Clone Tool, Blur …

In this tutorial will use the CloneStamp Clone Stamp Tool for delete the peopleon Wall, so we will take a look around. Those who already know the instrument can move to the next step.
The function of the Clone Stamp Tool Tool is very simple: it’s like a normal brush (Brush Tool) that, instead of normal coloring, it reproduces a certain area of the photo. The case study below clearly show the potential of this instrument. Select the Clone Stamp Tool and stand in the area of the image to reproduce (the source of color as the Clone Stamp tool will reproduce) and press Alt + left click. Then simply paint over the figure to cover. If necessary, you can scale the size of the brush. The principle is very simple: in this case we use the grass to fill (and thus eliminate) the undesirable persons.

Now we can start the tutorial: open in photoshop the photo of the wall (wall.jpg) and eliminates people.

01

Save the document in PSD renaming it “china_wall”.
Then, open the second source image (righth.jpg) in Photoshop, duplicate the layer, select the duplicated layer and use the quikSelection Quick Selection Tool for select the hand without the background.

02

Use the selection like a mask (for mask the background) by clicking Add vector Mask in the Layers Panel.
AddVectorMask
You have something like this:
04
Duplicate the layer by making right click and then > Duplicate Layer
05
Select the “china_wall” in Destination > Document.
06
Back to the Main file. For comodity You can resize it by making right click > Free Transform
07
Rescale and rotate
08

and you have it:
09

Now, duplicate the wall layer, put it on the top and rename the layer  with “Front”.
10

Chose the  quikSelection Quick Selection Tool and select the part of the image that we want to take forward from other objects (the hands and the face)
11

And Mask the rest with Add Vector Mask. (see “front” in the image above. the “lefthand” layer it’s realy a next step… so IGNORE IT  by now )

13

Now open  the left hand file(lefth.jpg) in Photoshop, hide the background as we did previously and duplicate the layer, to the main document (the wall). Repeat the same operation for the Buddha (bu.jpg):
14

15

Now hide the visibility of all layers (turning off the eye icon in the left of each layer), Create an empty layer, put it behind the Buddha and his hands, and now you can create the smoke effect with the Quick Selection Tool.
16

Create a spherical non-uniform selection like this:
17

click on Redefine Edge on the top panel
18

Set like this:
19

Now Create the smoke chosing Filter > Render > Clouds. Then duplicate the Layer and select the smoke layer that is behind the other.
20

Make the Blur: Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur.

31

Set Radius to 5px.
22

Now join both smoke layer by selecting there from the panel layer and right-click > Merge Layers. Duplicate this new layer and put a copy on the top, forward to all others layers. This is the result:
23

Now hide some parts of the smoke (the copy of the smoke leyer rising above all other layers), and Add Vector Mask (Note: I created a folder called “Original” where I included all layers, but this does not is a necessary operation!)

24

use a Soft Erase Tool (whit a brush set to 0% Hardness ) to erese some smoke

26

You might have some like this:
27

Now we will Merge all the layers, so Save the File and then resave it with a different name. After you will can’t modify the image marged, so SAVE IT!

28

Select all the layer (SHIFT + Click on the top and the last layer, despuès pulse el botón derecho > Merge Layer
Esta es el resultado: (la capa “Background” es irrelevante … si la tiene pueden eliminarla)
30

Ahora dupliquemos la capa y desenfoquemos la nueva copia copia escojiendo Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur (5-10% a gusto)

31

You must have some thing like this (if is not, go back and change the radius)

32

Duplicate the blurred layer 3 times. You must have now 4 layers blurred + one layer does not blurred (the original). Put the layer not blurred in the third position (between the others layers). Select the second and fifth layer and desaturate it my clicking on Image > Adjustments > Desaturate (Mac: Shift + Command + U ; Win: Shift + Alt + U).

In the picture below you can see that the second and fifth layer ( named “Layer 3″ and “Original Copy 2″) have black and white icons. Note also that the layers indicated by the B (B = Blur) are blurred and NB is the original not blurred layer. Now, set the Opacity of each layer (indicated with the number in percentage%) and the blending mode (normal, soft light, …) as follows:

33

Now io have the Final Result:

china_wall(final)

I Hope you have enjoyed it!
